Mdluli perceived people living with HIV as paying a price for their reckless and sinful activities. He even questioned his wife MaZondo why she was so committed to her work where she was dedicated in making sure that people living with HIV had access to their medication without fail. At his workplace Mdluli despised those who made their HIV status known. As part of the management, he didn’t give those under his supervision time off so that they could go and receive medical attention. There is a dramatic twist in the story when Mdluli discovers that he is HIV positive. He regrets his past utterances about people living with HIV and how he treated them. He makes a public apology and commits to change.

In Africa when the weather become warmer, leaves and plants start to grow again and flowers appear. Many bulbs BLOOM in the Spring. The forests become decorated with color and scented with the aroma of the blooming flowers.
The show Bloom! Bloom! celebrates the beginning of spring in Africa and the colourfulness of the forests. This is the time to the beginning of a new year for the Ndebele people of Southern Africa. Using traditional dances found in Southern Africa, the show uses powerful music, poetry, drumming and traditional dance to celebrate life’s diversity.

Footprints

Footprints is a musical dance show premiered by Umkhathi Theatre Works in 2019. The theatrical presentation is a narrative that traces the story of AmaNdebele mainly through dance and storytelling. The piece is more about a people who are carrying out an introspection as they seek to find out what defines them. The rich dance culture within the Ndebele traditions is then explored in a socio historical presentation. The theatrical piece traces the peoples religious development as they interacted with the BaKalanga and Abathwa (the San) tribes.

Ihloka

Ihloka is a historical play that highlights Ndebele resistance against colonialism by the British settlers. After the demise the defeat and subsequent disappearance of King Lobengula the Ndebele faced harsh treatment from the settlers. The disappearance of King Lobengula was significant in the Ndebele history. In the play some people view it as marking the defeat of the Ndebele state while others took pride in the fact that the king was not captured. Some believed that one day the King will come back and take his place.

Bayethe Nkosi is a theatrical production centred around the last days of King Lobengula and the battles his impis fought with the white settlers in an effort to resist colonisation. It is a re-imagination of the heroic historical events that King Lobengula and his impis got engaged in. The play seeks to correct, preserve and promote Zimbabwe’s rich history and cultural heritage. .
The play corrects some of the misinformation surrounding Lobengula’s role in the colonisation of Zimbabwe. It will act as a historical record. It depicts Lobengula as a strategist who fought to defend colonisation by white settlers and faced immerse pressure from outside and inside his own state. The play will pays tribute to some of the gallant sons and daughters of the Ndebele State who fought alongside Lobengula. General Mtshana Khumalo is one such hero that the play pays tribute to.
